Retrain the X For You feed
X does not document a full reset. Use Following for an account-only feed, then clean up For You with Not interested, unfollows, and muted words.
There is no documented reset. A cleaner feed comes from changing inputs and choosing a less algorithmic view.

Exact path
Make the change.
Labels can vary slightly by device and account. If this path is absent, use the fallback below.
Move to a feed you chose
- Open Home, then Following. Official X destination (opens in a new tab)
Unfollow recurring poor sources.
Use For You only for discovery.
Reduce unwanted recommendations
What changes
- Not interested and unfollow actions give X direct negative ranking signals.
- Muted words keep matching posts out of Home and notifications while the mute is active.
- Following limits the timeline to accounts you chose to follow.
What stays
- Your account, posts, messages, bookmarks, lists, and followers
- For You personalization when you return to that tab
- Ads and platform-wide safety controls
Can’t find the control?
- Use Following or a private List as the stable fallback.
- Look under Settings and privacy, Privacy and safety, then Mute and block for muted words.
Rebuild from here
- Use Following for several days while you clean up the accounts you follow.
- Choose Not interested without quote-posting, opening, or arguing with unwanted content.
- Create a focused List for the people and subjects you want to check intentionally.
X questions
Can I completely reset the X algorithm?
X does not document a one-tap reset. Following, Lists, Not interested, unfollows, and mutes provide the most direct controls.
Does Following remove all recommendations?
X describes Following as posts from accounts you follow. Promoted content and safety notices can still appear.
Does opening an unwanted post matter?
X says recommendations use signals such as accounts and topics you follow and posts you engage with. The cleaner response is Not interested, then move on.
