Rebuild your Facebook feed

Facebook does not document a one-tap algorithm reset. The practical reset is to clean up Content preferences, use Interested and Not interested, then switch to Feeds when you want posts from connections without suggested posts.

Clean up Content preferences

  1. Open Menu, then Settings and privacy.

  3. Review each preference.

  4. Add Favorites and unfollow poor sources.

Use a feed you chose

  1. Open the Feeds tab. Official Facebook destination (opens in a new tab)

  2. Choose a feed.

  3. Return here for connection-first posts.

What changes

  • Favorites, follows, unfollows, and explicit preference feedback change future ranking inputs.
  • The Feeds tab provides a connection-focused alternative to algorithmic Home suggestions.

What stays

  • Your account, friends, groups, Page follows, posts, and messages
  • Ads in Feeds and other Facebook surfaces
  • Existing signals Facebook may still use to personalize Home

Can’t find the control?

  • Search Facebook Settings for Content preferences; labels can move between app versions.
  • Use the post menu to choose Not interested or Unfollow when a repeated theme appears.

Rebuild from here

  • Spend more time in Feeds or Favorites than in the Home discovery feed.
  • Choose Not interested on unwanted suggestions without opening their comments first.
  • Unfollow quietly when a connection’s posts are a poor input. You can stay friends.

Does Facebook have a reset algorithm button?

Facebook’s public help documents preference controls, not a complete recommendation reset. Use Content preferences, feedback on posts, and the Feeds tab as the honest alternative.

What is the difference between Home and Feeds?

Home is a discovery surface with recommendations. Facebook describes Feeds as recent posts from friends, Pages, groups, and Favorites, without Suggested For You posts. Ads can still appear.

Will unfollowing someone unfriend them?

No. Unfollowing removes their posts from your feed while the Facebook friendship remains.
