Hide sensitive content on Facebook

In the Facebook app, tap Menu, then Settings & privacy, Settings, Content preferences, Sensitive content, and choose Show less. Facebook says it limits sensitive content on Feed, Reels and more, from friends and Pages you follow as well as ones you don't. It is a classifier with two positions and no lock.

The honest line

Show less only turns down what Facebook's own systems classify as sensitive on Feed, Reels and similar surfaces. Facebook says you 'might not' see sensitive content, not that you won't, and it is a two-position dial anyone can flip back.

Who can lock it: No lock: anyone using the account can put it back to Default. Lock it from outside with Screen Time, Family Link or DNS.

Availability: Facebook's About Sensitive Content Control article shows steps for the Android and iPhone apps only and says the feature isn't available on computers, while its content-preferences article lists Sensitive content under Settings & privacy > Content preferences on the web. Set it in the app to be sure.

Sensitive content setting (Show less)

A two-position setting under Content preferences. Default: You might see sensitive content. Show less: You might not see sensitive content at all. Facebook says it limits sensitive content from profiles and Pages you don't follow and also from friends and Pages you do follow.

Facebook app (Android and iPhone)

  1. Tap Menu in the top left of Facebook.

  2. Tap Settings & privacy, then tap Settings.

  3. Scroll down to Preferences, then tap Content preferences. Official Facebook destination (opens in a new tab)

  4. Below What you see, tap Sensitive content.

  5. Select Show less.

    Facebook describes the options as Default: You might see sensitive content, and Show less: You might not see sensitive content at all.

Facebook on the web (facebook.com)

  1. Click your profile picture in the top right of Facebook.

  2. Click Settings & privacy, then click Content preferences. Official Facebook destination (opens in a new tab)

  3. Click Sensitive content to adjust how much you see.

    Facebook's separate Sensitive Content Control article says the feature isn't available on computers. If you don't see it here, set it in the app.

What it does not cover

  • It is a classifier. Facebook says 'You might not see sensitive content at all', not that it is blocked. Suggestive posts it does not classify still show.
  • Only covers content Facebook allows but rates as sensitive under its Content Distribution or Recommendation Guidelines; content that breaks Community Standards is removed separately.
  • Facebook names Feed and Reels 'and more'. It does not list Messenger, groups you open directly, Marketplace or search, so do not count on it there.
  • Two positions only, Default and Show less. Anyone using the account can flip it back.
  • Teen Accounts have their own content setting a parent controls; adult accounts have no supervisor.

Not Interested, Snooze, Unfollow and Hide reel

Per-post and per-account feedback. Not Interested tells Facebook to show fewer posts like this; Snooze hides one person, Page or group for 30 days; Unfollow hides them for good; Hide reel removes a reel and reduces that creator.

Works only for what you name. Nothing new is caught until you name it too.

Facebook Feed (app and web)

  1. At the top right of the post, tap or click Options. Official Facebook destination (opens in a new tab)

  2. Select Not Interested to tell Facebook you'd like to see less content like this.

    Facebook says Not Interested replaced the previous Hide post option.

  3. Or select Snooze [Name] for 30 days to hide all posts from that person, Page or group for 30 days.

  4. Or select Unfollow [Name] to hide all their posts from Feed while you stay friends or keep following.

Facebook Reels (app)

  1. While watching a reel, tap More. Official Facebook destination (opens in a new tab)

  2. Select Not Interested to see fewer reels like it.

  3. Or tap Hide reel to remove it now and reduce content from that creator.

What it covers

  • Feed ranking
  • Reels feed ranking
  • One named person, Page or group (Snooze, Unfollow)

What it does not cover

  • Not Interested only nudges ranking. Facebook says your choices gradually affect your feed and the impact diminishes over time.
  • Snooze ends after 30 days.
  • Unfollow and Snooze catch only the account you name; similar posts from others keep coming.
  • Facebook says a Not Interested or Hide action can't be undone directly.

Block a profile or Page

Blocking a profile or Page limits interaction between you and unfriends, unlikes and unfollows it. Nothing new is caught.

Works only for what you name. Nothing new is caught until you name it too.

Facebook (app and web)

  1. Go to their Profile or Page. Official Facebook destination (opens in a new tab)

  2. Click Options (or More).

  3. Click Block, then confirm by clicking Confirm.

  4. Or block from Settings: Settings & privacy, Settings, then Blocking under Audience and visibility.

    Click Edit in Block profiles and Pages, click Add to blocked list, type the name, click Block, then Confirm.

What it covers

  • One named profile or Page

What it does not cover

  • Only the profile or Page you name. Blocking one of a person's profiles or nicknames does not block their others.
  • Facebook says the Block option is no longer in the post menu in Feed; go to the profile or to Settings.
  • Blocking may not prevent all interactions, for example in apps or groups you both use.
  • If you have several Facebook profiles, you block from each one separately.

Facebook questions

Does Show less also hide sensitive posts from my friends?

Facebook says the Sensitive Content Control limits sensitive content from profiles and Pages you don't follow, and also from friends and profiles and Pages you do follow. That is broader than Instagram's version, which skips accounts you follow. It is still a classifier: Facebook says you 'might not' see sensitive content.

Can I set it on a computer?

Facebook's About Sensitive Content Control article says the feature isn't available on computers and gives Android and iPhone steps. Its content-preferences article lists Sensitive content under Settings & privacy > Content preferences on the web. Set it in the app to be sure.

Where did the Hide post option go?

Facebook says Not Interested replaced Hide post in the Feed post menu. On suggested content in the app, Facebook still lists Hide post, Snooze the Page for 30 days, and Hide all from the Page.

Can anyone lock the setting?

No. Any adult signed in can move it back to Default. Teen Accounts default to an Ages 13+ content setting and need a parent's or guardian's permission to change it to More content. For your own devices, put the lock outside Facebook with Screen Time, Family Link or a filtering DNS.
