Switching from Canopy

Canopy is built mostly for parents, and it covers explicit images without blocking whole sites. On Guard is built for one man and the allies he chose. Install On Guard, invite your ally, and run both for a week.

What changes when you switch

Canopy is a thoughtful product. It replaces explicit images with white rectangles instead of blocking whole sites, and it has an adults option. Its center of gravity is still the family: screen time, photo alerts, and location for parents.

On Guard

What it covers
Canopy: Explicit images and videos are covered as the page loads, and the rest of the site stays usable.
On Guard: Explicit content gets a gate on your screen. Clean content gets nothing.
Who it is built for
Canopy: Family tools: screen time management, risky-photo alerts, and a location map.
On Guard: No screen time rules, no photo monitoring, no location. It is not parental control.
Your ally
Canopy: For adults, a human partner who approves sensitive changes, or an AI ally.
On Guard: A human ally you chose, who gets a text when adult content is opened, or if On Guard is uninstalled or signed out.

Three things that change

It works on the feed, not just the moment. When explicit content appears, On Guard puts up a gate, and Move on can do more than close it. On a supported feed (X, Reddit, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube or TikTok, in your browser on Mac or Windows), it offers that platform’s own block or “not interested” in one tap, so the signal goes back to the algorithm that served it. Nothing happens on the platform unless you tap it.

Someone would know if you quit. Your ally gets a text if On Guard is uninstalled or signed out, or if a device goes quiet for 7 days. It is not parental control: you choose your ally, and they never see the site, a screenshot, or your browsing history.

Canopy’s removal alerts are written for parents watching a child’s device. On Guard’s uninstall text goes to an ally you chose, and they never see the site or a screenshot.

It stays out of your way. No VPN, no locked-down phone, no schedules to live around. Clean content gets nothing. On Guard steps in only when explicit content is on your screen, and suggestive content gets a short nudge that retires on its own.

Before you switch

The honest line

On iPhone, Canopy filters and we do not. On Guard runs no detection of its own on iOS: iPhone gets Apple’s adult-site filter plus a nudge to move on from the apps you pick. Canopy also lists Chrome among its platforms. On Guard’s full detection runs on Mac, Windows, and Android.

  • If you are protecting your children, Canopy’s family tools do a job On Guard does not try to do. Keep it on their devices.
  • Canopy offers a one-week free trial. On Guard offers a 30-day free trial, then a 30-day money-back guarantee.

Switch without a gap

Do not cancel Canopy first. Run both for a week so there is never a night with nothing standing guard.

  1. Install On Guard on every device you own.

Mac, Windows, and Android get full detection. iPhone gets Apple’s adult-site filter plus app nudges.

  2. Run the test run on each device.

It shows you what a gate looks like before you ever need one.

  3. Invite your ally.

It can be the same person who is your ally or partner today.

  4. Keep Canopy running for a week alongside On Guard.

  5. Once On Guard is standing guard on every device, cancel Canopy.

Cancel through the store or website where you subscribed to Canopy.

Tell your ally what changes

Your ally is used to one way of hearing from you. A short heads-up keeps the switch from feeling like you are quietly stepping back.

A message you can send

Heads up: I am moving from Canopy to On Guard. I am not stepping back, just changing tools. You will get an invite link from On Guard, and after that you may get a short text if adult content is opened on my devices, with the app, the device and the time. No screenshots and no browsing history. If one comes, just check in with me.

The promise

Your ally gets a check-in if an adult site is opened on your devices, with the app, the device and the time. No additional details.

Questions

Can I keep Canopy on my kids’ devices?

Yes. On Guard is built for you, not for a parent watching a child. A family can run a parental tool for the kids and On Guard for the adults.

Is On Guard like Canopy’s AI ally?

No. On Guard’s ally is a real person you chose. They get a short text when adult content is opened on your devices, with the app, the device and the time.

Does On Guard work on my iPhone?

Partly. On Guard runs no detection of its own on iOS: iPhone gets Apple’s adult-site filter plus a nudge to move on from the apps you pick. Full detection runs on Mac, Windows, and Android.
